Successes and Failures of the First Trump-Biden Debate

Here's what Americans looked for after President Donald Trump and Democratic rival Joe Biden took the stage:

'Logorrea' ('Logorrhea', in English)

According to the dictionary, logorrhea is defined as "excessive and often incoherent speech or verbiage."

Searches on Tuesday night were up 56,000%, according to the dictionary.

President Donald Trump was criticized for his repeated interruptions throughout the night, which once led Biden to reply, "You wanna shut up, man?"

The term jumped to the top of website searches after MSNBC's Rachel Maddow used it after the debate, according to the dictionary.

'Shush' (in English)

In another attempt to stop Trump's interruptions, Biden asked, "Will you shut up for a minute?"

(Will he just shush for a minute?).

That word had many searches after that question, with searches increasing 28,900% Tuesday night, according to the dictionary.

Its definition?

"Urge to shut up, to shut up", according to the dictionary.

'Xenophobia'

Xenophobia "is the fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or anything strange or alien," says the dictionary.

Searches for the word increased during the debate, according to the dictionary.

In the debate, Trump claimed that Biden called him a xenophobe because of the travel restrictions his administration imposed at the beginning of the pandemic on foreign nationals who had been to China.

“I closed it and you said, 'It's xenophobic.

He's racist and he's xenophobic, 'because you didn't think he should have closed our country, "Trump said.

It is unclear if Biden was aware of the restrictions in late January when he said Trump has a history of "hysterical xenophobia" and "fostering fear."

'Moderator'

Another term that had many searches was "moderator."

Searches for the term increased 3,500% on the night of the debate, according to the dictionary, "for reasons that should remain between these search engines and their dictionary."

The moderator for Tuesday night was Fox News' Chris Wallace, who tried several times to intervene and quell the discussions, as well as to reaffirm the rules of the debate and how much time was given to each speaker.

That term has several definitions: “it can be 'someone who presides over an assembly, meeting or discussion' (as in the chair of a discussion group or the president of a municipal meeting), or 'someone who arbitrates;

a mediator '(this is the sense that is relevant to the discussion tonight… we thought, since it could also be' a substance (such as graphite) used to slow neutrons in a nuclear reactor ') ”, explained the dictionary.
