After almost two years, the driver of the Once tragedy, Marcos Córdoba, will be able to go home with parole.
This afternoon he was still in the Marcos Paz prison, where he entered on
October 6, 2018
.
His lawyer, Valeria Corbacho, was waiting for him outside.
The decision to grant him the benefit depended on Jorge Gorini, judge of the Federal Oral Court No. 2 and in charge of the criminal execution, which follows the fulfillment of the driver's sentence.
In April, Gorini had denied him house arrest.
Córdoba received a sentence of
three years and three months in prison
for being found responsible in one of the most serious railway tragedies in Argentine history, which caused more than
700 injuries and 51 deaths
, including a pregnant woman.
His sentence expires on December 31, 2021.
At the end of July, the machinist's lawyer requested parole, based on the time he has been detained, on his
good conduct
- absent of sanctions and qualified as exemplary in the records of the first quarter of the year - in his work in prison -
receives and distributes food
- and in the positive conclusions of different professionals who observed Córdoba's performance in prison.

Corbacho asked that the benefit begin this Wednesday and
the judge granted his request.
The conviction for
negligent damage
received by the driver is final, which means that it can no longer be reviewed by a higher judicial body.
Last Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected the complaints of more than 20 sentenced persons, among them Córdoba, and turned their punishments into proven and indisputable issues.
