Many horticultural associations are reluctant to organize their plant swap events this year due to the requirements.

The “Gartenwinkel-Pfaffenwinkel” network has created an alternative: “The Green Mile”.

In October, plants are offered on a 300-meter-long stretch of road.

District

- Heike Grosser's phone rings every day.

Sometimes it's about questions about the choice of plants, sometimes about diseases, sometimes about renovation work.

There is a lot that can be learned about garden design.

Grosser, managing director of the district association for garden culture and land maintenance, is happy to help.

And she notices how much interest has increased significantly this year.

Especially because of the lockdown, “many people are looking more closely at their garden again and appreciate it more,” she says.

And some of them now had more time for renovation work.

For the right feel-good atmosphere, you need beautiful plants, among other things.

Because many horticultural associations are having a hard time organizing their traditional plant swap exchanges this year due to the Corona, the “Gartenwinkel-Pfaffenwinkel” network has come up with a new concept.

It offers “The Green Mile” in Böbing on October 24th from 1pm to 5pm.

The motto: "Homemade food and advice for small and large gardeners."

A road between the Bruggerhof and the Granerhof will be closed for the event - for a length of around 300 meters.

Numerous horticultural associations take part in the “Green Mile” by collecting plants and making them available.

These are then presented on around 40 tables and can also be taken away for a donation.

There should be more than 100 plants.

Garden and balcony owners can find new treasures for their home.

The donated money goes to the district association for garden culture and land maintenance.

“We needed a concept in which everything is equalized,” says Grosser.

The network, which is part of the district association, then came up with the idea of presenting the plants along a street - so you can stroll with enough distance.

Network members, all of whom are passionate garden lovers from the region, are available to answer questions from visitors.

The plants are sorted according to topic and also well labeled so that interested parties can find out the most important information at a glance.

This also serves to prevent anyone from getting too close.

Grosser is happy about the idea of the network.

"It is important to us that something can happen," says the managing director.

The right street was found quickly - the Bruggerhof, near which the “Green Mile” begins, is a member of the network.

On top of that, the road section can be easily avoided.

In the middle of the countryside and with no traffic, plant lovers can take a relaxed look around - at a distance, of course.
