The Apfeldorfer tennis players have now had a lot of fun holding their men's club championship on the new all-weather pitches.

Because in the months before that, the tennis grounds were renovated with great effort and the new surface applied.

Apfeldorf

- The Apfeldorf tennis department heads Andreas Schreiegg and Christoph Wernberger were already busy with cost estimates, applications and preparations last winter.

A special funding program for sports facilities promised 55 percent funding, but the construction project had to be completed this year.

The municipality of Apfeldorf also promised a subsidy for the all-weather surface, and so they actually only waited for the general meeting of the association to get the final “OK”.

But then Corona came, and the annual general meeting was canceled.

So all 437 members of SV Apfeldorf had to be asked in writing for their consent.

309 pieces of paper were returned, 305 of them with yes votes.

"That was a great confirmation for us, we thank all members for their support," says Schreiegg.

Construction work started just a week later, the old tennis sand was removed, the subsoil was rebuilt and the drainage system was relocated.

Then came a specialist company that put on the all-weather surface.

With the support of local companies and a lot of personal contribution, the total costs could be kept below 80,000 euros.

55 percent of this is covered by the special funding program, 20 percent by the community.

The main club and the tennis division share the rest of the quarter.

"The new course has the same playing characteristics as a clay court," reports Christoph Wernberger.

"But it can also be played on in winter or when it is wet."

The tennis division at SV Apfeldorf has been experiencing an upswing for a few years now.

Over 20 children and young people are trained, a junior team, women and men play in the points round.

During the construction work and also when the gentlemen play their point games, the Apfeldorfer are allowed to move to the Kinsau squares.

"We have a good relationship with the people of Kinsau, so they can now play in Apfeldorf in winter," said Schreiegg, thanking them for the good neighborhood.
