On the sidelines of a trip to Chanteloup-les-Vignes (Yvelines), the former minister agreed to answer our questions to discuss the dange

Chances of the calendar are sometimes funny.

While Emmanuel Macron presents his plan on separatism this Friday morning at Mureaux (Yvelines), another figure preceded him this Thursday evening ... not even ten kilometers away.

Taking advantage of the inauguration of a "house of projects" which now bears his name in Chanteloup-les-Vignes, former minister Jean-Louis Borloo is once again sounding the alarm on the urgency of supporting the neighborhoods.

On the sidelines of this event, he also agreed to answer questions from the Parisian to discuss the dangers of community withdrawal.

Emmanuel Macron presents his separatism plan, what do you expect from it?

JEAN-LOUIS BORLOO.

Let him make a nation, let him make a Republic.

He is the leader of the nation, we are a bloc.

It must therefore give itself, subject by subject, the means to achieve this.

Because you consider that the Republic is in danger today?

Not yet, because I am a bearer of hope… no despair.

That is to say ?

Our country is at a crossroads: either it assumes the withdrawal into oneself and the weakening which let the enemies of the Republic occupy the ground, or it decides that our great nation is rich in its youth and its diversity.

We must have an answer for the youth.

It's not just a question of religion, but also education, access to culture, etc.

And this necessarily requires real support in the neighborhoods?

It is not a question of minimizing the extent of the Republican challenge in certain neighborhoods.

The

dealers

are increasingly visible, while women are less and less.

Forces of territorial relegation and social disintegration are at work.

These forces propagate the idea of rejection which would justify community withdrawal, when it is not delinquency and hatred of the other.

Faced with this, we must demand from the State that force remains with the law.

But the Republic must also treat the evil at the root, to repair neighborhoods, educate and integrate.

In his speech, it will probably be a question of secularism ...

But French secularism is learning French in a village in Mayenne, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris or in Cayenne!

Secularism is the school of the Republic, it is equal opportunities.

It is not just a cultural or religious problem.

Is secularism threatened today?

There is a danger of community withdrawal.

In all its forms: whether it is religious extremism, but also associative, family withdrawal, etc.

Are you comfortable with the term separatism?

I don't want to go into that.

But beware, in separatism, there is the word separation.

How are your relations with Emmanuel Macron today?

It's better ?

I am not in the controversy, neither near nor far, because I want our country to get out of it.

Our relations are correct.

Chanteloup is inaugurating a "project house" in your name, how do you feel?

A form of posterity?

It's obviously a little emotional, but I'm alive!

And I'm still able to piss off a few (

laughs

).
