Netanyahu has appointed an external adviser to provide information on the corona crisis

Jordan Vatikai has been appointed to be in charge of information management in the Corona crisis, due to Netanyahu's dissatisfaction in this area.

This will mean that the issue of information will be managed directly by the Prime Minister's Office and not by the Ministry of Health or the Home Front Command

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today (Thursday) appointed Jordan Vatikai to be in charge of managing the national information on the Corona crisis.

A few hours after the announcement of the appointment, the Prime Minister's Office clarified that Vatikai had been appointed as an external professional adviser on information matters and not as the person responsible for managing the national information of the Corona crisis.

They further clarified that there is no change in the areas of responsibility of the various ministries and entities.

A veteran, who specializes in communications consulting in the private sector, will be employed by the Prime Minister's Office as an external consultant exempt from tender.

He is considered one of the most respected media consultants in the government system and in the private sector.

In the past, Vatikai served as director of the national information staff in the Prime Minister's Office for 11 years, from 2008 under Ehud Olmert and for a decade until July 2019 under Netanyahu.

During the first wave of the Corona, Netanyahu recruited former spokesman Gidi Schmerling to serve as an external communications adviser to the prime minister's office.

This is against the background of Netanyahu's dissatisfaction with the issue of communication and information in the Prime Minister's Office regarding the treatment of Corona.

Merling has won much praise for his performance.

Even during the second wave, Netanyahu is dissatisfied with the treatment of the information issue.

During a meeting of the Corona Cabinet yesterday, a confrontation took place between Defense Minister Bnei Gantz and Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, due to Gantz's demand to transfer responsibility for public information regarding Corona, from the Ministry of Health to the Home Front Command.

Netanyahu did not know at all that the issue of information was in the hands of the Ministry of Health, and said that he thought the Home Front Command was already dealing with the issue.

The Prime Minister's Office stated that "Jordan Vatikai will assist in the national information efforts in the Corona crisis and will assist in the inclusion of the information work of the government ministries and the Home Front Command."

The bureau added that "Jordan will be employed as an external consultant and will work in collaboration with the information staff and other parties. He served as the director of the national information staff for 11 years until July 2019."
