Clashes and protests over gasoline shortages 3:18
(CNN Spanish) -
The Minister of Petroleum of Venezuela, Tareck El Aissami, announced this Thursday that the supply of fuel will be resumed through the last license plate number of each car, “to order the vehicular flow” at the gas stations.
In addition, the 1,568 service stations in the country will be reactivated in different modalities.
This includes those that offer direct subsidies, vending companies at international prices, which offer currency and crypto assets as a means of payment, and those destined for public and cargo transport.
These measures are part of the government plan of the questioned President Nicolás Maduro to regularize the supply of gasoline.
The plan begins next Monday, October 5.
About 100 protests were registered last weekend in different states of the country in rejection of the constant failures of public services and the shortage of gasoline, according to a balance of the director of the Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict (OVCS), Marcos Ponce.
For several oil experts, the cause of the energy crisis lies in the lack of investment and maintenance of the facilities, as well as in the problems of alleged corruption in the country.
