At the Wörthsee, the catering establishments located directly on the lake are in a somewhat more dignified starting position.

In order to extend the outdoor operation as long as possible, however, upgrade them too.

- In Munich, the landlords saved more and more open bar areas over the summer at the expense of parking spaces and to the chagrin of the motorists.

These hinge gardens can now also be operated in winter equipped with patio heaters, as the city council of the state capital recently decided (we reported).

A few days ago, “Il Kiosko” operator Generoso Aurigemma set up a mobile pavilion in front of his cult kiosk on the lake promenade so that he can use the outside area.

"When it's cold, I can close the side," he explains.

The pavilion, which consists of three modules, can accommodate 40 guests.

Aurigemma's kiosk is usually open in winter too, with space for 25 to 30 people inside.

“But we can't do it with the distance rules.” Hence the pavilion.

“Necessity makes you inventive,” comments the restaurateur on what he calls an emergency solution.

Because of the Corona crisis, his sales have slumped by 46 percent.

“I have to make sure that I get through the winter.” He therefore hopes that his offer for the cold season with coffee, cake, mulled wine and pull-outs will be well received.

Aurigemma met with goodwill from the administration and the municipal council.

When Mayor Christel Muggenthal raised the issue at the latest municipal council meeting, everyone agreed.

A similar picture can be seen just a few hundred meters away at Till Weiß, the host of the Augustiner at Wörthsee.

A tent for 18 people is already in place.

“That is also very well received,” he says.

Two more are to follow, so that he can serve a total of 50 people in front of his restaurant with a view of the lake.

Weiß observes that 20 percent of his guests only want to sit outside, despite the autumnal weather.

Contrary to all fears, the summer season wasn't that bad for him.

Events such as weddings have been omitted.

But many did not go on vacation and instead came a little more often to eat at the lake.

Inside, too, thanks to the ventilation system and 165 seats - 360 without pandemic restrictions - it is "well positioned".

The tents are "for the transition period".

Since it is a first for Weiß, it remains to be seen how long it can be operated.

It is precisely because of such uncertainties that the Seehaus Raabe decided against an additional outdoor area.

“The rules change very quickly,” argues managing director Franz Sinnreich.

What is possible could look very different from week to week.

In addition, the environmental aspect counts more than possible profits: his guests can also use the tables in front of the lake house without a roof.

"The sun is shining great here," says Sinnreich.

Because the Seehaus operators do not want to operate with patio heaters for environmental reasons.

According to Sinnreich, this is a “waste of resources”.

Aurigemma and Weiß also want to try it in their newly created open bar areas without patio heaters.

When the sun is low and shines under the roof of the pavilion, "it gets really warm," says Aurigemma.

Like Sinnreich, he advises his guests to simply dress a little warmer in order to be able to sit outside.

If you want, you should bring your own blanket, as the blankets of "Il Kiosko" are not given out to protect against infection.

And should there be a major cold snap, Aurigemma and Weiß have a fan heater for this case - it is not considered to be quite as harmful to the environment as a patio heater.
