How have the new mayors settled in office?

- The shortest time in office is Stefan Klaffenbacher.

The new mayor of Lenggries was only elected three weeks ago as the successor to the late Markus Landthaler.

“I was received quite well, everything went well.

I am satisfied ”, was his first conclusion.

To start with, he hadn't planned on a special project, but instead dealt with day-to-day business.

This includes, for example, numerous inquiries from citizens, other communities and institutions.

“Of course it's stressful, but I knew that beforehand.” The schedule is full, the point is that he now get to know everyone, including the community's own institutions.

“It's not that easy to accommodate everything.” Coming home early is currently hardly possible.

“I have to find my rhythm now.” He is grateful for the good induction by the Second Mayor Franz Schöttl.

Two major topics have determined the previous term of office of Klaus Rauchberger in Jachenau.

“How do we cope with the rush of visitors with all the park and garbage chaos?

And of course the Corona requirements. ”With the latter, there were sometimes new requirements almost every day.

“For example, they once said that we had to install disinfectant dispensers at school.

Then it was said again, no, not, that was too dangerous for the children. ”The orders often came on 20 full pages.

“Some things could have been said in three sentences,” says Rauchberger.

Although he had already noticed a lot during his time as deputy mayor.

“But a lot of things were new to me.” For example, the corona-related video conferences with other mayors and the district administrator.

The poor internet connection in the town hall would often have thwarted the bill.

Other topics also suffered from the corona crisis.

In order to make progress on the bike path, the mayor of Jachenau would have needed appointments with authorities that they did not get.

"We actually lost half a year." Even with flood protection, a lot remained, "although one would like to think that there was now enough time to plan in the offices".

The community has also filled another position in the town hall.

He was grateful for the good people in the administration.

In order to be able to exercise his honorary position as mayor, he has handed over his farm to his son and helps out there when he has time, says Rauchberger.

“Mornings and evenings in the barn when the harvest is due or something else urgent.” Actually, three working days are planned for the mayor's office.

“But Jachenau is a small community, everyone knows everyone there, everyone knows where the mayor lives.” Many a request is brought to his front door.

"But I am trying to make sure to separate the private and the work for the community."

A big topic in the municipality of Wackersberg for Mayor Jan Göhzold was the rental of the multi-generation house.

He had already taken care of that as a manager - and carried it on as mayor.

“That was a lot of work.” He always made sure to be present at the tenant meetings so that the healthy mix that they wanted to get for the MGH was really right.

“We have now achieved a balance: from young couples to single mothers to widows, everything is included.” Everyone felt comfortable that it was a good thing.

Another topic that he continued to deal with as mayor is broadband expansion in Unterfischbach.

The application for funding has now been submitted.

“As a manager, I had already noticed a lot.” He had already dealt with these two topics before, and it was therefore important to him that everything continued.

The fact that the position of managing director is currently still vacant has put some projects on hold.

“You can't tear yourself apart.” The digitization of the school is very important to Göhzold.

"We also want to create opportunities for homeschooling here." Lending tablets have already been purchased.

The corona crisis at the beginning of his term of office had ensured that many meetings that he would normally have attended as a new mayor were canceled.

“It's usually a nice opportunity to get to know everyone.” He used the time to concentrate on the ongoing work.

"Yes, the situation in the phase at the start of office was quite a challenge," says Sachsenkam's mayor Andreas Rammler.

The shift work required in the administration did not necessarily make the start easier.

Also in the community kindergarten, some things had to be clarified due to corona.

But you were able to solve everything “everyday and practical” together with the daycare management.

Otherwise, he spent the first time getting to know all the administrative and community employees.

He enjoyed full support.

“I became mayor without previous experience as a councilor,” said Rammler.

“So a lot of things were new territory for me.” Thanks to the help of the local council and his predecessor Hans Schneil, he quickly found his way around.

Overall, his life as mayor is on a completely different path. “Almost everything you do takes place in public.” The fact that he is now responsible for a municipality “I don't see as a burden or burden, but as a leap of faith that the citizens of Saxony have given me”.
