Hong Kong today condemned the double standards policy pursued by the US administration, expressing its deep regret that officials in this administration made irresponsible statements regarding the law enforcement measures in Hong Kong.
Xinhua quoted a spokesman for the Hong Kong government as saying at a press conference that the Hong Kong government has officially informed the US government that it is an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China and that it is a local administrative region with a high degree of autonomy and directly under the Central People's Government.
The spokesman stressed that "Hong Kong affairs are internal affairs of the People's Republic of China, and foreign governments must stop fomenting panic and interfering in any form."
The US State Department, as part of its interference in Hong Kong's internal affairs, issued a statement yesterday expressing its condemnation of the arrests of a number of rioters in Hong Kong at the beginning of the month.
