The Buddha Quan Temple, a third-class historical building on Lantau Island, was burgled and the century-old rosewood furniture was stolen. The place where the burglary was stolen was the Buddhist hall and guest hall of the Foquan Temple, which was used to greet guests. However, there are currently no monks living in the Foquan Temple, so the person in charge of the adjacent Luhu Jingshe will help manage it. According to the person in charge of Luhu Jingshe, the day before yesterday (2nd), she found that the iron branches used to lock the door of the Foquan Temple were buckled. She was not suspicious at that time, and went to the site again this afternoon (4th) and found that Unable to open the door, after passing through another door to enter, the guest room was found to be messy, full of scriptures and incense ash, and some rosewood furniture and incense burners were found stolen. She said that the rosewood furniture was made a hundred years ago and has been placed in the temple since the completion of the Foquan Temple in 1933. I am deeply distressed about the theft of antique rosewood furniture, and I hope the police can assist in recovering it. The police claimed that a bed, four chairs, a table and two incense burners were missing at the site, and the total loss was about 141,000 yuan.

According to information from the Antiquities Advisory Board, the Buddhist monastery in Luhu Village, Luhu, Lantau was founded in 1933 as a monastery where monks lived.

In the 1930s, the British gentleman Xu Shide made a wish at Foquan Temple. After his wish came true, he converted to Buddhism and dedicated a wooden plaque to Foquan Temple.

Until the 1960s, there were many monks and nuns practicing in the Buddhist temple.

In recent years, there have been no monks living in the Buddhist temple for retreat, and the person in charge of the adjacent Luhu Jingshe will assist in the maintenance.

Foquan Temple was rated as a Grade 3 historic building by the Hong Kong Antiquities and Monuments Office in January 2010.

The person in charge of the Luhu Jingshe revealed that the place where the burglary was stolen was not the Luhu Jingshe, but the guest hall adjacent to the Foquan Temple to greet guests.

On July 4 this year, people of good faith wanted to worship Buddha at Foquan Temple, and everything was fine in the guest hall.

The day before yesterday, the person in charge went to the Foquan Temple again and found that the iron branch used to lock the door was bent. She was not suspicious at that time.

At about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, when she was about to enter and check, she found that the door could not be opened, so she entered the hall through another door and was shocked to see that the rosewood furniture estimated to be made 100 years ago and placed in the Foquan Temple since 1933 was missing. And Fei, estimated to be worth more than 100,000 yuan; two other incense burners worth 500 yuan each were also missing, and the incense ashes in the furnace were poured on the ground.

In addition, a mosquito net was lifted, and the entire Buddhist hall was turned over by people, and the scriptures were all over the place.

She suspected burglary, so she called the police for help.

Another temple in the village was stolen last month

The person in charge also pointed out that in the afternoon of the 18th of last month, another temple in Luhu Village was also stolen. At that time, the person in charge of the temple did not lock the door, and only went to another house nearby to deal with affairs for a while. No thief was expected. In broad daylight, he entered the house and stole a bag containing a bank card, ID card and cash.

She pointed out that after the incident, the head of Luhu Village reminded him to be careful, but she did not expect that she would encounter a similar incident in the end, hoping to retrieve the stolen furniture.

She also estimated that the prisoner was a connoisseur of antiques, who knew that the temple had stolen the precious rosewood furniture, and suspected that the other party would sell it on the black market or transport it back to the mainland for profit.

At about 2 pm today (4th), the police received a report from the person in charge of a temple at Luhu, Upper Qiangshan, Sham Wat Road, Lantau Island, stating that the furniture on the site was missing and suspected of burglary.

The police arrived at the scene to investigate. After preliminary calculations, they found that a bed, four chairs, a table, and two incense burners were missing at the site. The total loss was about 141,000 yuan.

After preliminary investigation, the case was classified as a burglary and was handed over to the Lantau Police District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up. No one has been arrested yet.
