Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov renewed his country's commitment to the Chemical Weapons Treaty, rejecting at the same time the accusations leveled against Moscow in the case of the alleged poisoning of the Russian dissident Alexei Navalny.
Russia's Sputnik news agency quoted Peskov as saying in a statement to reporters that Russia strictly fulfills its responsibilities under the Chemical Weapons Treaty, ruling out the possibility of engaging in any activities related to the development or modernization of any chemical weapon inside Russia.
Peskov called it absolutely impossible.
This statement came against the background of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) announcement yesterday that Navalny, who is currently in Germany, was subjected to poisoning using a toxic chemical of the "Novichok" type, which is not registered with the organization.
