Two traditional restaurants in Riegsee will remain closed until further notice.
With this, the community also loses its insider tip, in which some celebrities were also happy to be guests.
Riegsee has been hit hard this year in terms of gastronomy.
Both in the once legendary forester's house Höhlmühle and in the Westner village inn, operations are dormant.
In both cases, the property owners do not know at the moment how things will go with the objects.
Riegsee
- two
inns
that
close
indefinitely within a few months
:
Riegsee
has been
hit
hard
this year
gastronomically
.
The operation of the well-known
Forsthaus Höhlmühle
, which is
located in the forest and
which attracted international audiences - not only
hikers
and
cyclists,
but also
celebrities
- has been inactive since the beginning of the year.
The
Westner Inn followed
: Tenant Siegfried Fischer did
not even
open
after the
Corona lockdown
;
his contract ended in the summer after more than 20 years.
Also as a
host
Fischer drew a line in the guest
house
in
Riegsee
.
In this case, the business relationship will expire on October 31st.
Mayor Jörg Steinleitner will probably seamlessly present a successor to the community's event building.
He speaks of a “great solution” - and a “stroke of luck in times of Corona.
We need a
good host
”.
Closure of the Westner village inn in Riegsee: "A great loss for all of us"
This is
currently apparently not in sight
at the
Westner Inn, which was
previously a classic
Bavarian village inn
.
"This is a great loss for us and we are very sorry," explains Steinleitner, who
praises
Fischer as an
"excellent cook"
.
What will become of the property, whether it
should remain a
restaurant
or not, is written in the stars.
From the owner family Westner it is reported that they “honestly don't know how things will go on”.
Traditional restaurants in Riegsee are closing: no successor in sight yet
Steinleitner intervened to help, although this property does not belong to the community.
He had "
contacted
several potential
hosts
" and asked whether they were
interested
in a branch in
Riegsee
.
The
restaurant
is "fully accepted by the population" and
Riegsee is
"an attractive location".
However, Steinleitner did not succeed in finding a successor for Fischer.
The
corona pandemic
made the search immensely difficult: "Nobody likes to take a
risk
in this situation
that cannot be calculated." Should the tide turn for the better and a new
host
would come, "we as a community would very much welcome it".
Westner-Wirt remained closed after the corona lockdown
Corona
acted as a catalyst in
Fischer's personal decision
: the landlord preferred his retirement in
Riegsee
, which was
planned for 2021
.
In
his opinion
, a
hygiene
concept would have been very difficult to implement in the building, says the former tenant.
He saw no solution, especially for the situation in hallways and toilets.
Employees his age - Fischer will be 65 this autumn - asked him whether the risk was too great for him.
“We thought about what to do for a long time.” Because: You are attached to a restaurant that you have been running for so long.
But in the end, Fischer came to the conclusion: “That is too unsafe for me.” He has been in the kitchen for 50 years, “and you still have a life”.
So he puts an end to it in
Riegsee
: in the
Westner
, in
the guest's house
.
Fischer continues its counterpart in Spatzenhausen, where he has also been hosting events for years.
Forsthaus Höhlmühle in Riegsee: Investments necessary
Riegsee
meanwhile - at least temporarily - lost an important part of its
gastronomic offer
.
In the
Forsthaus Höhlmühle
, the village also lost a
legendary insider tip
, which was long considered a good address for
fine Bavarian cuisine
.
Since the beginning of the year, operations in the property that is owned by the von Poschinger family have been idle.
There is a plan to
continue
the
cave mill as a restaurant,
says Hubertus von Poschinger.
"However, it is not foreseeable whether that will work." The
pandemic
makes it difficult to find a new tenant.
In the case of the
Höhlmühle
, a contract
that was
ready to be signed
was already on the table, "which however did not materialize".
According to Poschingers, “some investments are necessary” in the building.
If it is currently “only possible to achieve low rental income”, the question arises as to
whether
it makes
economic sense
, he says.
The same applies here: the future is open.
Even the district of Riegsee is still not entirely without
gastronomy.
The Seestube, for example, ran brilliantly in summer, says Steinleitner.
He does not see “the overall situation as totally negative” - and not just with a view to the successor in the guest's house.
The campsite is also being redesigned at the moment.
"
Gastronomy
will play a role here."
