Vice President Mike Pence met tonight (Thursday) for a confrontation with the Democratic Party's candidate for the position of Vice President Camela Harris, on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City.

This comes a week after the first and chaotic confrontation between US President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

The presenter, journalist Susan Page, introduced Harris and a flashlight, and the two went into the applause of the audience.

They sat down next to the tables that are three meters away, with glass partitions separating them.

Paige asked them to conduct the confrontation in a civilized manner, and indeed at first Harris and Lantern did not hurl insults at each other, maintaining relative restraint.

However, Harris later accused Pence of breaking into her words, even interrupting him and saying, "Vice President - I'm talking."

"The American people have witnessed the greatest failure of a presidential administration in the history of the United States," Harris said.

"The Trump administration has reduced the severity of the epidemic. It has whitewashed the corona crisis."

She went on to argue that "to respect the American public is to tell them the truth. You respect the American people when you have the courage to be a leader, to talk about things you may not want people to hear, but they need to know so they can defend themselves."

"People have had to sacrifice too much because of this administration," she said.

She also addressed the issue of vaccines against the virus, making it clear that she does not trust President Trump.

"If the professionals tell us we need to get this vaccine, I'm first in line. But if Trump tells us to get vaccinated - I will not accept it."

Pence replied that "your breach of trust in the Corona vaccine is unacceptable."

"Our nation has had a very challenging time this year. But I want the American people to know that from day one, Trump has made health a priority."

The incumbent vice president went on to defend Trump's conduct in the Corona crisis.

He said that with the outbreak of the corona, the president suspended flights from China, thus giving the United States the opportunity to prepare for the fight against the plague, which saved the lives of many.

"China is to blame for this epidemic," he said.

He even attacked Harris' remarks on vaccines: "It's unacceptable. Stop using human lives as a tool in political games."

"Trump has made health a priority."

The confrontation between Trump and Biden has touched on various issues related to the Republican president's leadership over the past four years, including the corona plague, the economic crisis, the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court, and the president's tax payments issue.

Candidates for the presidency of the United States took the stage without handshakes, as the parties had agreed in advance due to the plague.

Trump argued that Biden would be too slow to deal with the corona and its consequences.

On the other hand, the former vice president questioned Trump's leadership during the crisis, saying he was scared and could not defend the Americans because he only cared about the economy.

Fox Network presenter Chris Wallace sometimes tried to control the debate, but the two contestants attacked each other and hurled insults, about a month before the November election.

The 90-minute debate, which was attended by a small audience that was even socially distant due to the epidemic, was the first of three planned clashes for the presidency, which are now unclear if and when.

The confrontation tonight took place in the shadow of Trump's illness, who returned to the White House this week from solitary confinement, after receiving experimental treatment and feeling better.

However, the president faced renewed criticism after removing the mask upon his return from the hospital, urging citizens not to be afraid of the virus he contracted himself, resulting in the deaths of more than 209,000 Americans.

Trump's critics said he received the best treatment from an army of doctors and received experimental drugs, a treatment that is not the lot of ordinary citizens.

Democrats joined the criticism.

"This is a tragic leadership failure," said Democratic Sen. Chris Coons.

Biden was also quick to attack, when he posted on Twitter a video of him wearing a mask and Trump removing it, on a split screen.

"Masks are important. They save lives," it read.
