Ile-de-France: regional trains will stop more often in the great suburbs

2020-10-08T10:48:26.514Z

Ile-de-France Mobilités will finance an additional daily stop in Seine-et-Marne or Yvelines stations of three TERs, coming from the region

This may have happened to you before, while waiting for your train from line N, P or R to Paris: to see a fast train - and far from being full - spinning without stopping towards the capital, during that you are still waiting for yours which promises to be crowded.

Infuriating… Especially since the only problem with this train is ultimately to have the logo of a region other than Ile-de-France.

Fortunately, this is not always the case.

Some TER or Intercity trains from Normandy can for example stop at Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines), and benefit everyday travelers.

Valérie Pécresse, president of the region and of Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), has decided to do more.

She announced to the Parisian the vote, this Thursday at the board of IDFM, of an extension of 800,000 euros to finance three additional TER stops, in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre and Nemours Saint-Pierre (Seine-et-Marne) and in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, from January 2021.

Time savings of 10 to 15 minutes

In detail, a TER from the Grand-Est will stop at 8:16 a.m. at La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, direction Gare de l'Est, between the two trains already loaded for line P from Château-Thierry, at 7:57 a.m. and 8:27.

In the return direction, a TER from the Center Val-de-Loire region departing from Bercy station at 6:02 p.m. will stop at Nemours Saint-Pierre at 6:52 p.m., a saving of time of around 15 minutes compared to to line R trains at Gare de Lyon.

Finally, another TER from the Center, leaving from Montparnasse at 8:06 am, will stop at 8:28 am in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

This will save about ten minutes for employees who go to this Yvelines business center.

3.5 million euros for 8 stops

These three stops are in addition to five others put in place in December 2019, in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre already, Longueville (Seine-et-Marne) and Mantes-la-Jolie.

Or 3.5 million euros spent by IDFM for these eight saving stops for Ile-de-France residents.

“I want to improve the service to the outer suburbs by all means, insists Valérie Pécresse.

By new equipment, reinforcement of offers, but also by interregional work: I put all my weight in the balance to stop the frustration of seeing TERs from other regions that are not full.

"

Tight negotiations

Ile-de-France has therefore conducted close negotiations with the Grand-Est, Normandy and Center Val de Loire regions to obtain these additional stops, which will benefit “hundreds of inhabitants of the greater suburbs”.

"A painstaking job," says Valérie Pécresse, "we had to carry out audits, calculate the filling rates, to define which TERs are not full and run at an interesting time.

"

And also negotiate the compensation paid.

Because these regions do not gain anything from ticket sales with Ile-de-France users, since these TER are accessible to them with the Navigo pass.

“Those extra stops seem like little things.

But a train can change a lot, it is a very concrete improvement in everyday life, in great demand by user associations, explains Valérie Pécresse.

We continue to look where we can make additional stops ”.

At La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, we appreciate the good news

“More trains means fewer people!

“For Françoise, a resident of La Ferté-sous-Jouarre who works in Paris, these TER stops are common sense.

“Currently, especially in Meaux, things are getting very busy, even if there are a little less people with the epidemic,” she says.

"A train every half hour is not enough at rush hour", approves Laurence, on the same platform.

The 7.42 am train, added last year, has found its followers.

The one at 7:57 am is much busier, as is the one at 8:27 am.

So when travelers learn that the Central Region train that leaves without stopping at 8:16 am will stop here in January, they appreciate the good news.

“From Trilport, it takes a lot, and in Meaux the quays are armored, adds Floriane, a 37-year-old nurse who works in the 14th arrondissement.

I often have to take the car with my shifted schedules.

One more train at 8:16, that would ease the congestion on 8:27, that's for sure!

"It's brilliant", smiles Lionel.

“One more train would be cool,” says Adrien, 18.

But it would take the afternoon also to come back.
