Mali officially announces the release of French hostage Sophie Pétronin

According to the presidency of Mali, the last French hostage has been released. She had been detained for four years.


The Malian presidency announces this Thursday, October 8 the release of the last French hostage in the world, Sophie Pétronin, as well as a Malian personality, Soumaila Cisse.

Both are said to be on their way to Bamako.

Sophie Pétronin, 75, had been detained for nearly four years and there is great concern for her state of health.

Madame Pétronin's family hinted on Tuesday that her transfer from northern Mali to freedom was underway, without it being clear what tangible elements she had.
