A Swiss woman kidnapped four years ago in Mali has been killed by her kidnappers.
This was announced by the Swiss Foreign Ministry on Friday evening.
"She was apparently killed by kidnappers from the Islamist terrorist organization Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslim (JNIM) about a month ago," the statement said.
"I condemn this cruel act and express my heartfelt condolences to the relatives," said Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.
The woman, who had worked as a missionary in Timbuktu for years, was abducted for the second time in early 2016.
The woman from Basel was abducted by Islamists for the first time in April 2012, as reported by the SDA news agency.
The French Sophie Pétronin, kidnapped four years ago, two Italians and the prominent Malian opposition politician Soumaila Cisse were only released on Thursday.
