The two
hikers are
said to be father and son who were on vacation in
Bavaria
.
As the
Bavarian Red Cross announced
on Saturday, the vacationers were on their way back to the valley when their
path was blocked
by around 20 centimeters of
fresh snow
and ice.
The Schleswig-Holsteiners wanted to start their way back to a mountain hut, but did not get there because the son was already too exhausted.

The 52-year-old father then notified the
Berchtesgaden mountain rescue team
, which deployed a
rescue helicopter to rescue the
hikers
who were in distress
.
According to official information, both the father and his son were recovered unharmed and brought back to the valley.
At 2522 meters, the Hohe Göll is the highest peak of the
Göll massif
and lies on the border between the Bavarian region of
Berchtesgaden
and the Austrian state of Salzburg.
It was not until August that a fatal accident occurred on the Hohen Göll when a hiker tried to circumvent a snowfield and fell in the process.
