Guatemala confirms the capture in Mexico of Julio César Macías

The Guatemalan Ministry of the Interior confirmed this Saturday in a statement that Julio César Macías alias “César Montes” was captured in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, whom he pointed out as being accused of the “alleged murder of elements of the Army".

The First Deputy Minister of Security, Gendri Reyes Mazariegos, indicated that it was a joint effort between both countries, and that "the procedure for extradition had already been carried out."

According to the statement, there are at least two arrest warrants against alias “César Montes”, for murder, illicit association and aggravated usurpation.

"This person is accused of the acts committed on September 3, 2019 against nine elements of the national army when they were patrolling the Semuy III village in El Estor, Izabal," said the director general of the National Civil Police , José Antonio Tzubán Gómez, in statements published in the bulletin.

The director general added that 3 soldiers died.

CNN does not know if the accused has a defense and how he declares himself before the authorities' accusations.

In another statement, the Ministry of the Interior reported that Macías had already been handed over to Guatemalan authorities in Mexico.

Macías is expected to be airlifted to Guatemala City, where he will be sent directly to Torre de Tribunals, according to the Guatemalan government.
