Google has already introduced several products this year, including the new Chromecast, but there is still some surprise, it seems, like a new Nest thermostat | CNNE Underscored | CNN

Google has already introduced several products this year, including the new Chromecast, but there are still some surprises, it seems, like a new Nest thermostat for only $ 129.99.

It does not replace the original Nest Thermostat ($ 249.99) or Nest Thermostat E ($ 169.99).

This is a new entry point in the range, as it is Nest's most affordable thermostat to date.

The Nest Thermostat does everything you hope a smart thermostat can do.

You can adjust the temperature, and really any aspect of your HVAC system, on the device or through a connected app.

This $ 129.99 Nest thermostat is controlled from the Google Home app and limits the number of things you can do on the device itself.

It's a big change, but it fits into the consolidation of Google-made devices.

You can pair your Nest Thermostat with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for a hands-free experience, if you like.

The other big change is a new design.

It no longer has a ring that rotates around the device to adjust the temperature.

The new Nest uses a capacitive touch sensor on the right side of the device that you swipe your finger up and down to adjust the mode (cool, heat, eco, etc.).

You also won't have to activate the screen;

Sensors, including Soli (the same technology that enables face unlock on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL), will intelligently wake up the device so it's ready when you get close.

In some cases, if you just want to see the temperature, you won't have to touch it at all.

There are also some new features on the Nest Thermostat.

It proactively monitors the HVAC system and can theoretically alert you to a problem before it gets big.

Through the Google Home app, it will recommend a local service provider to review the installation.

Second, and possibly more useful, is quick programming.

With this, you can create a schedule for cooling or heating.

Nest will eventually suggest or recommend small adjustments to help you save energy.

The thermostat itself is still circular, but it's a bit more sleek and modern.

The lampshade has a mirror finish that will best match your home décor.

You can choose from four colors: snow, charcoal, sand, and fog.

The interface has been tweaked a bit to present the active mode along with the temperature which is also set.

The interface is a bit simpler with core information like mode, desired temperature, and current temperature highlighted in the center.

Nest even offers a fancier mounting kit, which is essentially a larger backing plate for $ 14.99.

This seems like a practical way to cover any holes in the wall that appear during installation.

Better yet, the new Nest Thermostat comes with a two-year warranty.

That beats the one-year warranty for both the original Nest and the Nest E. And in the box, you'll get the Nest thermostat, backing plate, a mounting plate, and two batteries.

The thermostat itself will connect to electricity for power, but the AA batteries act as a backup.

As a new entry-level model, this $ 129 Nest thermostat strikes us as a hit.

It has the most important features of the other models and even introduces some new ones.

The Nest Thermostat can be pre-ordered now for $ 129.99 and will begin shipping in the next few weeks.

The most advanced decorating kit, available in the same four colors, is also on presale at $ 14.99.
