People's Assembly Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh, during his meeting today with Cuban Ambassador in Damascus Miguel Porto Parga, stressed the importance of developing and strengthening parliamentary relations and exchanging experiences and visits between members of the People’s Assembly in Syria and the National Assembly for People’s Power in Cuba, referring to the depth and strength of the historical relations between the two friendly countries.

Sabbagh referred to the unilateral coercive Western measures imposed on the Syrian and Cuban peoples aimed at breaking their will and undermining their independent decision, noting the danger of the false slogans that the United States raises under the names of "combating terrorism and promoting democracy" with the aim of stealing peoples' goods, which it does by stealing oil. And Syrian wheat is in the “worst piracy operation” in history.

For his part, Ambassador Parga affirmed his country's support and support for the leadership, army and people of Syria in the face of terrorism and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on it, indicating that the recent tightening of the United States' blockade of Cuba and Syria necessitates increasing the level of coordination and cooperation between the two countries in the face of American and Western dictations.

The Cuban ambassador indicated that he would continue working to strengthen ties between his country and Syria, stressing that no one could undermine the unified Syrian-Cuban position on various issues.

Sabbagh received from Ambassador Parga a letter from the President of the National Assembly for People's Power in Cuba, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, in which he expressed Cuba's solidarity with Syria in the face of terrorism targeting the unity and territorial integrity of its territory, the Corona pandemic, and the fires that broke out in several provinces.

The meeting was attended by a number of members of the People's Assembly.
