2020-10-13T09:37:10.322Z

"Stop talking, we want actions" hammer the prison supervisors of Borgo in Haute-Corse, refusing to take their service on Tuesday, October 13.

Two vehicles belonging to a couple of prison guards in Borgo (Haute-Corse) were set on fire in the night from Monday to Tuesday in front of their home, bringing to 10 the number of officer cars burned since July, according to the prosecution and trade unions.

"

Ten cars have burned since July plus a stable, that's really a lot,

" Maxime Coustié of the UFAP-Unsa union told AFP.

The last two vehicles, set on fire around 1:20 am in the courtyard of their house, belonged to a couple of guards who were members of the same union, he said.

The management is overwhelmed by events but they are aware that there is a real problem.

Things have to change because we can no longer work like that, fear reigns among the staff,

”he assured, adding that the agents had not taken up their post on Tuesday morning and that about sixty people gathered in front of the prison to protest against this situation.

The SNPFO union supports this "

movement of anger

" and the strike of the Borgo prison supervisors on Tuesday morning in a message posted on Twitter.

"

It is more than worrying and we are very determined to ensure that the investigations move forward very quickly to put an end to this destruction,

" Bastia Attorney Arnaud Viornery told AFP.

All the investigations into these fires were joined and entrusted to the research section of the gendarmerie.

Several are doing well,

” he said.

Burned vehicles, tags and threat letter

In July, in addition to the vehicles set on fire, tags had also been discovered on the facade of the prison by name inciting two officers to leave, and the director of the establishment had received a threatening letter.

A source familiar with the matter then told AFP that it all started with a cell phone seized during a random search and which contained a video showing a party in a cell with bottles of champagne and several detainees being filming yourself with cell phones.

According to another source, guards were present at the "

party

" whose discovery had led to cell searches.

An anonymous letter signed the "

detainees of the Borgo penitentiary center

" then denounced "

the pressure

" of the management after this "

birthday party

" and assured that "

families and friends (...) do not leave (have) these injustices and constant mental pressures unfold as well

”.

Maxime Coustié stressed that there had been no new measures since July.

A keeper's stable also burned down at the end of September.
