The National Assembly voted Tuesday, October 13, to adjust the reform of the tax on non-residents with the approval of the government, on a point that raised concerns among French people living abroad.

As part of the examination at first reading of the draft budget for 2021, MEPs gave the green light to an amendment already adopted in committee, which will make it possible to maintain the partially discharging nature of the withholding tax for income from French source for non-resident taxpayers.
The reform of the non-resident tax was initiated two years ago and revealed “
risks
” for the “
less fortunate
”, explained the Minister of Public Accounts Olivier Dussopt.
Those touching between 27 and 44,000 euros per year would have suffered "
a very strong increase in their taxation
".
The government submitted a report to parliamentarians this summer in order to correct certain undesirable effects of the reform, which aimed to bring the tax regime for non-resident taxpayers closer to that of resident taxpayers.
Hence this adjustment voted by the Assembly.

”for the taxpayers concerned, to which it is put an end.
The LREM deputy of the French in Asia Annie Genetet, at the origin of the adopted amendment, thanked the government.
Non-resident taxpayers, numbering 470,000, are domiciled mainly in Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States.
