Curfew: right and left point to a "confession of helplessness"

2020-10-14T21:39:59.144Z

Some denounce the "absurdity" of the decisions of the Head of State to try to contain the circulation of Covid-19 in the territory.

The curfew measures announced by the Head of State on Wednesday have received various comments from the political class.

On the right, there is a convergence of analysis between deputies and LR senators.

Damien Abad supports these decisions but not without denouncing an "

impossible choice

".

The curfew is an admission of failure and the powerlessness of the government because if the testing, tracing, isolating had worked, we would not be faced with this situation.

It is therefore a necessary evil but above all an admission of helplessness,

”judges the president of the LR group to the Assembly.

Guillaume Peltier, number 2 of the LR party, was very critical.

"

We swim in absurdity: curfew at night but metro during the day, metropolises closed but vacations for all in the countryside ...

", denounces the deputy of Loir-et-Cher by emphasizing the presidential silences on the "

recruitment of caregivers

”Or“

the creation of resuscitation beds ”

.

For Arnaud Danjean, there are reasons to doubt the capacity of power to impose its restrictions.

"

So a State already struggling to enforce basic public order in our metropolises, solemnly considering being able to impose a curfew there for health reasons?"

“Asks LR MEP.

60% of contamination takes place at work or at school or at the university between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

But Emmanuel Macron forbids going out to the bar and the restaurant between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France insoumise

In the Senate, Bruno Retailleau urges the executive to succeed in everything that has failed since the start of the crisis.

"

We will give the government the means to fight against the pandemic but it will have to ensure the effective implementation of the strategy which will make it possible to break the chains of contamination

", warns the senator of the Vendée.

Taking note of the announcements, his centrist colleague Hervé Marseille notes that the restriction of public freedoms can only be "

temporary

", underlines the "

seriousness of the social and economic impact

" of these measures and calls for an "

immediate and massive

”.

In the South-East, Martine Vassal, LR president of the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis, also points to the economic risk.

Even if we have to accept this curfew, we must also face these new rules which will have a very strong impact on our economy and our way of life,

” she regrets.

A danger also identified by Marine Le Pen in these terms: "

Thousands of companies will not survive without massive and immediate support

".

On the left, the first secretary of the PS Olivier Faure thinks that the French "are

paying cash for the failure of the management of deconfinement

" and criticizes measures "

notoriously insufficient

precarious families

","

Young people deprived of resources

","

".

In the Senate, the president of the socialist group lashes out against the President of the Republic.

This curfew is testimony to the failure of deconfinement.

And this failure, he wants to bring it to the French…

”, accuses the parliamentarian.

"

We will see what is in this text, but our vote is not at all acquired, far from it,

" warns the Senator from the North, in the event that the state of emergency is extended to - beyond four weeks.

At the head of France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is also ironic about the "

absurdity

" of the decisions he considers contradictory: "

60% of contaminations take place at work or at school or at university between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

But Emmanuel Macron forbids going out to the bar and the restaurant between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Another rebellious deputy, François Ruffin is annoyed.

As usual, a man all alone, up there, makes decisions alone from the Elysee.

And that does not seem to me the mark of a great democracy

”.

Health must prevail.

Everyone must help to limit the spread of the virus,

”comments Julien Bayou, head of EELV.

"

But the majority of contaminations take place outside the private sphere: transport, high schools, universities, businesses ... There is a need for consistency

".

A little earlier, after discovering that the decree on the state of emergency had been taken in the Council of Ministers without consulting the parliament, the leader of the PCF Fabien Roussel had denounced a "

total breach of confidence

" doubled, according to him, of a "

democratic crisis

".
