(CNN) ––

Kristen Bell spoke candidly about Dax Shepard's recent relapse, after 16 years of sobriety.

In a virtual interview for Wednesday's episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Bell said Shepard is doing better now because of the new boundaries the couple has set.

Actually, he's doing very well.

Everyone faces their own demons, ”said Bell.

Sometimes it's anxiety and depression.

Sometimes it is substance abuse.

Shepard revealed on a September 25 episode of his podcast, "Armchair Expert," that he had relapsed on pain medication after a motorcycle accident.

The "The Good Place" actress added that one of Shepard's strengths is wanting to evolve.

"What I like best about Dax is that he was able to tell me and tell us, 'We need a different plan.'

We have a plan: if you have to take medicine for any reason, I have to give it to you.

But he told me, "We need a stronger plan," said Bell.

Shepard had told her that he was fighting wanting to consume them again, saying he was "hesitating."

Yet he is "addicted to growth," added Bell.

"He's addicted to evolving," he told the presenter during the talk.

"He was like, 'I don't want to risk this family and I did, so let's put in new rules to make sure it doesn't happen again.'

The two are working on a new plan and have also returned to therapy.

"I will continue to support him because he is so worth it," said Bell.
