After being poisoned with the Novitschok nerve agent, Alexej Navalny disclosed who would pay for his treatment in Germany.

"I promised to tell you. I'll say it," wrote the Russian opposition leader in an Instagram post.

The transport by plane to Germany cost 79,000 euros and was paid for by the entrepreneur Boris Zimin.

The cost of treatment in the Berlin Charité amounted to a total of 49,900 euros, Nawalny said.

The entrepreneur Evgeny Chichvarkin, the economist Sergej Aleksashenko and the IT specialist Roman Ivanov were responsible for this.

Navalny himself was unable to pay the bills and his accounts were apparently frozen.

At the end of September, Navalny's spokeswoman, Kira Jarmysch, announced that, following a court order, Navalny could not make transactions through his bank accounts.

In his post, Navalny wrote that not only the bank accounts of him and his family had been blocked, but also his business account.

Navalny suspects Putin to be behind the poison attack

Navalny collapsed on August 20 while on a domestic flight in Russia.

After an emergency landing in the Siberian city of Omsk, he was transferred to the Berlin Charité at the urging of his family.

The 44-year-old has meanwhile left the hospital, but has not yet fully recovered and is completing a rehabilitation program in the German capital.

In an interview with SPIEGEL, Navalny suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin was behind the poison attack on him.

The Kremlin dismissed this as "absolutely not allowed".

On Wednesday, the EU decided to sanction six Russian representatives.

In his Instagram post, Navalny thanked the "wonderful people" who had offered him help.

Accordingly, Navalny could not accept further donation offers due to the regulation of the European banking system.

Navalny wrote that he wanted to do everything properly and honestly.

At the end of his contribution, Navalny called for "Putin's officials" to be asked about the payment for their private flights and treatments in European clinics.

As a lawyer, Navalny has been fighting against corruption and the misappropriation of state funds in the Russian government apparatus for years.
