The Spanish government yesterday (Tuesday) issued an order banning wage discrimination between men and women, and the various companies to reveal the gender pay gap.
They will be required to establish an action framework for determining whether different jobs have the same value.
"The message is very clear: women should get paid like men's for the same jobs," Equality Minister Irena Montero said during a news conference after the weekly cabinet meeting.
She said the government should be active in preventing the corona plague from exacerbating the gender pay gap.
"In this state of emergency, we know there will be no economic rehabilitation if we do not put an end to gender gaps once and for all."
Companies that do not disclose the wage gaps risk a fine of up to 187,000 euros.
"You can't play with basic rights," said Labor Minister Yolanda Diaz.

Since coming to power in January, the left-wing coalition in Spain has placed the strengthening of women's rights in the country at the center of its political agenda.
In addition, the government has pushed to strengthen the laws against sexual violence and it wants to change the definition of rape to non-consensual sex, after media gang rape was investigated on suspicion of lesser offenses because the prosecution did not prove they used violence.
That decision was reversed and assailants were eventually convicted of rape.
