Global hopes for a vaccine to reach the Corona virus in the near future have been shaken, after two companies in the United States halted the clinical trial phase, while other European countries are imposing new restrictions in the face of the second wave of the virus.

Most European countries eased restrictions over the summer, to try and rehabilitate their economies that were already on track for an unprecedented recession and high unemployment, due to the first wave of the plague.

However, a return to routine - from full restaurants to academic studies, has led to a sharp jump in the number of infections across the continent.

Bars and pubs were among the first to close or be under restrictions in the second wave, but now governments are facing a test regarding educational institutions and medical services unrelated to Corona.

In

Spain

, the region of Catalonia ordered the closure of bars and restaurants for 15 days and restricted the opening of shops and parks.

Acting president of the region, Per Argons, said restaurants would be allowed to operate in the form of takeaways and deliveries.

The capital Madrid and its suburbs have been in partial closure since last week.

Spain, with 900,000 people diagnosed and 33,000 dead, is the worst-hit area in Western Europe.

He said the Conservative government had lost control of the outbreak after refusing to impose strict restrictions as recommended by medical officials as early as September 21.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is currently refusing a second general closure, instead presenting a sort of "traffic light plan" based on morbidity levels.

France

Paris and other major cities will come under curfew.

The curfew will take effect from this coming Saturday, and will operate daily from 21:00 in the evening until 6:00 the next morning.

In an interview, Macron clarified that whoever improved the curfew will be fined 135 euros.

In

Russia

, a daily record of 14,231 new cases and 239 deaths was recorded, but President Vladimir Putin said today that approval had been given for the development of a second vaccine for the virus.

In August, Moscow announced the approval of the world's first vaccine against the virus, but the pace of its development has caused concern in the scientific community around the world.

The first vaccine, "Sputnik 5", has not yet been used by the general population.

In the

United States the

number of infections has skyrocketed with an average of 49,000 cases per day in recent days, an increase of 13% compared to last week.

This is while President Donald Trump, who himself contracted the virus, returned to holding mass election rallies weeks before the presidential election.

The number of dead and infected in the United States is the highest in the world.
