The Kremlin reacted vigorously on Thursday to the announcement by the European Union of sanctions targeting several Russian officials in connection with the poisoning of opponent Alexeï Navalny.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov deplored an
"unfriendly measure"
and
"without any logic"
which will call for a response
"in line with Russia's interests"
.
"
We can only regret this decision which makes relations between the EU and Moscow dependent on a person considered in Europe as the leader of an opposition,"
added Mr. Peskov, without citing Alexeï Navalny, the bête noire of the Kremlin, whose name is never mentioned by Vladimir Putin and his entourage.
