Some two million people have sent their vote by mail in the State of Florida within 18 days of the presidential elections in the United States.
The figure is historic for a region that is decisive in the vote count.
Some five million people have requested to vote by mail in the region and 39.7% have already returned the ballots through the postal service, according to data from the US Election Project of the University of Florida.
On Monday, October 19, early voting in person will begin in the State and, given the high participation scenarios in Texas and Georgia, a similar situation is expected.
The balance of the vote has been tipped primarily by Democrats.
The figures show that of the total votes 1.1 million correspond to people registered with the Democratic Party, while the Republicans have barely reached about 681,000 voters.
Democrats began an intense campaign to mobilize the vote by mail since August, when Donald Trump accused, without proof, the postal service (USPS, for its acronym in English) of being fraudulent.
This voting modality has gained relevance in these elections because it is a method that avoids contact with other people during the coronavirus pandemic.
Florida has become one of the leading states in voting by mail in recent days, when more than 15 million people across the country have already voted using this method.
California with 2.3 million votes cast and Texas, with 2.4 million, are currently the regions where the population has turned the most to send their vote through the postal system.
Floridians have until October 24 to request a vote by mail.
The attention that Florida is receiving in the last weeks of the campaign is explained by the final vote count: the state has 29 of the 270 electoral votes that a candidate needs to become president of the United States.
Trump has visited the region twice in the last week and Biden, three times in the last month.
The Hispanic population is crucial for the victory on November 3, since 20% of the voters of that origin and have roots from countries such as Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
