Armenia and Azerbaijan announced today that they have reached an agreement on a humanitarian truce in the Nagorno Karabakh region, starting from midnight.
Russia Today quoted the Armenian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement today that this decision was taken in implementation of the joint statement issued on the first of this month by the presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the United States, Donald Trump, France, Emmanuel Macron, the statement of the heads of the Minsk group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Moscow statement.
In a similar statement, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry confirmed that an agreement had been reached on a humanitarian truce.
Earlier today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov renewed during telephone talks with his Azerbaijani counterparts, Gihon Bayramov and Armenian Zograb Mnatsakyanian, his country's position calling for adherence to the ceasefire in the disputed Nagorno Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region witnessed a sudden military escalation on the 27th of last September, at a time when the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides exchanged accusations about the causes of this escalation.
