Virgil Van Dijk, Liverpool's huge defender, lasted only ten minutes on the court in the classic against Everton, for the fifth date of the Premier League.

It was after a brutal tackle by the rival goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, who did not even end in penalty because the VAR detected an imperceptible forward position of the Dutchman

Liverpool were already beating Everton 1-0 when the central defender went to the rival area in search of a stopped ball, but the outcome was not as expected: after a second play, Van Dijk was offside.

The action continued and led to a violent cross by Jordan Pickford.

Not criminal, not red or anything.

Referee Michael Oliver scored a penalty without hesitation, as the defender writhed in pain on the floor.

But then the VAR call came and it all ended in nothing.

In reality, it ended with the Dutchman off the court - Joe Gómez replaced him - and with the uncertainty about the degree of an injury that can take him away from the playing fields for quite some time.

Klopp's anger

Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool coach, was not only set on fire by that VAR intervention.

The German said he did not understand the VAR's decision to annul Jordan Henderson's goal in added time that would have given his team the victory against Everton.

Technology denied Liverpool victory against Everton by a millimeter offside by Sadio Mané on the play that led to Henderson's goal.

"My players do not understand that that goal was annulled. Last season the shoulder (the part that Mané had ahead of) was not offside. Since then I have had ten interviews and they have always told me that that is not offside" Klopp pointed out.
