The incumbent Uli Burchardt (CDU) defended his post in the mayoral elections in Constance.
The 49-year-old prevailed in the new election with 49.5 percent of the vote against his challenger Luigi Pantisano (left), who received 45.1 percent.
Andreas Matt (independent) ended up in third place with 5.1 percent.
In the first vote three weeks ago, Burchardt was still in second place behind Pantisano.
But because none of the applicants achieved an absolute majority, a new election was necessary, this time with a simple majority.
The turnout was 61.4 percent.
The 41-year-old Pantisano caused a sensation as Burchardt's strongest challenger.
If he had actually won the mayor election, Konstanz would have been the first West German city in which the left has the mayor.
The main focus of his agenda was on environmental issues.
He tried to avoid public contact with the Left Party as much as possible.
The Konstanz CDU accused him of this.
