Marian Schreier wants to become Lord Mayor of Stuttgart.
At 30, he is the youngest applicant and caused a scandal in the SPD with his candidacy.
Stuttgart - Politics in Stuttgart (BW24 * reported) has been shaped by the Greens in recent years.
While
Fritz Kuhn
has been
in charge in
Stuttgart's
town hall
for seven years
, Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann * is also a member of the
Greens
at the head of the
state government
of
Baden-Württemberg
.
On November 8th, however, the political situation in the state capital Stuttgart * could change.
Then the
election
for
mayor will
take place, incumbent
Fritz Kuhn
will not run again.
The municipal
election committee
has now approved 14 of a total of 17
applications
for election.
Because the
mayor
in
Stuttgart is
determined by a
personality
choice, many
candidates run
without the support of a
party
.
Corona critic Michael Ballweg is also running for the OB election in Stuttgart. * At just 30 years old,
Marian Schreier is
the youngest among the
applicants
.
He advertises with the slogan “The boy can
do it
” - and nevertheless emphasizes that age
does not play a role
in the
choice
.
OB candidate Marian Schreier: Age does not play a role in the Stuttgart election - and it could still be important
Given his young age,
Marian Schreier
does not
see himself
unsettled or at a disadvantage under any circumstances.
“Competence is not a question of age,” explains Marian Schreier in an interview with
BW24
.
Much more important is what an
applicant
stands for.
He
wants to counter
the voters in
Stuttgart
, who are critical of him because of his age, with arguments.

Because in 2015
Marian Schreier was
elected as the youngest
mayor of
Germany at the time - in
Tengen
in
the Konstanz district
.
The native of
Stuttgart has
already celebrated remarkable successes in
Tengen
with his unusual style.
One example is the city's medical center, which is being built by a cooperative in which the citizens are also involved.
Marian Schreier can't resist
a swipe at
Fritz Kuhn
and his age.
“If
experience were
the key, there would have been more
activity
in Stuttgart in recent years,” he explains to
BW24
.
And yet he does not turn a blind eye to the fact that at the age of 30 he could possibly be
well received by
young
voters
.
"Many questions in
Stuttgart
have a long time horizon", says
Marian Schreier
about
BW24
.
Accordingly, his generation in particular is responsible for finding answers.
Candidacy for the mayor election in Stuttgart brings Marian Schreier problems with the SPD
The
Stuttgart
native owes the
fact that
Marian Schreier is allowed
to run as a
candidate
for the
election to
the
personality
choice
system
.
As the name suggests, the townspeople choose a personality, the
party
does not appear on the election posters or on the ballot paper.
Of course, many
candidates
still have
party
support
.
For example, OB candidate Frank Nopper wants to give the CDU Stuttgart a new image. * In theory,
Marian Schreier
as a party member
would have
the
SPD
behind him.
But she already supports the candidate
Martin Körner
.
Because Marian Schreier nevertheless applied for the office of
Lord Mayor
of
Stuttgart
, the SPD even threatened to
be expelled
from the
party
because of this “unsolidary candidacy”
.

A state arbitration commission decided in favor of
Marian Schreier
, so that he
can
stand
next to
Martin Körner
and only has to suspend his rights as a party member until the new
city head is elected
.
"For me, the dispute is over," explains Marian Schreier to
BW24
.
In spite of the same party affiliation, he sees clear differences in the party programs of himself and Martin Körner.
Mayor election in Stuttgart: The election programs are similar - but for Marian Schreier the devil is in the details
When looking at the main topics that the
candidates
have written on the agenda, it is noticeable
that the
applicants are
remarkably in agreement
when it comes to identifying fundamental problem areas in
Stuttgart
.
Many see a need for action in the areas of
economy
,
mobility
,
housing construction
or
digitalization
and
climate change
.
Marian Schreier
is no exception.
However, he doesn't see a problem in this.
Marian Schreier
explains to BW24
that he does not want to "campaign
against
others" but to convince with a new style
.
There are also differences in the details of the programs.
Marian Schreier sees clear differences,
especially when it comes to questions of
mobility
and
residential construction
.
Regardless of the
election programs
,
Marian Schreier
sees
ideological
trench warfare
and
party-political templates
as a problem for city politics.
"Many ideas already fail when they are implemented - or they hesitated endlessly," says Marian Schreier about
BW24
.
He therefore wants to eliminate the political secondary theaters of war with his new style.
Election for Mayor of Stuttgart: For Marian Schreier, the Eckensee is an example of how things shouldn't go
Another concern of
Marian Schreier
is the situation of young people and especially that scenes like the riots in Stuttgart * do not repeat themselves.
He
therefore
wants to set up a safety container
at
Eckensee
- a kind of mobile police station and otherwise increasingly rely on prevention, also by street workers.
Marian Schreier
also
sees the
situation at
Eckensee
as an example of failed cooperation between the
state government
and the city of
Stuttgart
.
Because the area actually belongs to the country.
The plan to improve the lighting there for safety reasons has so far failed due to the disagreement between town and country.
Should Marian Schreier
actually cause another surprise
in the
OB election
on November 8th, he would have enough opportunities to show whether “the boy” can do that.
