This measure gives Beijing more leeway to retaliate against Donald Trump in the war he is waging on Chinese companies in the technology sector.

China has just passed an export law with the stated aim of protecting its national security.

The provision, adopted by the Chinese parliament on Saturday, comes in addition to measures the Middle Empire could use against the United States amid growing tensions between the two powers.

The text, which will come into force on December 1, allows Beijing to

"take reciprocal measures"

against countries that do not comply with export controls, which constitutes a threat to national security.

If the Chinese authorities and the official media who presented this law have refrained from mentioning the United States by name, this measure clearly gives Beijing more leeway to retaliate against American President Donald Trump in the war he is waging on companies. Chinese technology sector.

The White House notably attacked the TikTok and WeChat applications, the Chinese telecoms giant Huawei as well as the computer chip maker Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (Smic).

Since 2018, the Sino-US trade war has resulted in additional reciprocal customs surcharges on numerous goods.

The US president has accused China of dishonest business practices, theft of intellectual property and wanting to use technology to extend its hold over certain regions of the world.

The exports concerned include notably military and nuclear products, but also other goods, technologies, services and relevant data, according to an official statement.

This law specifies that the Chinese authorities will establish

"in due course"

an export control list of the products concerned.

Foreign nationals and foreign companies can also be held responsible for violating export control rules.
