The MVV is starting a large-scale trial for the e-tariff.

Passengers should check in and check out with their mobile phones and pay the distance between their stops calculated according to the straight line.

Test subjects are now being sought.

Munich - Those who are fed up with zones, who regularly fail at the ticket machine and for whom everything is too complicated when traveling by underground, bus or train - the rescue is now approaching.

Provided he is a mobile phone savvy, has an I-Phone 10 (or newer) or an Android phone with the operating system 5 (upwards).

Then he can take part in an interesting attempt by the MVV.

The transport association is looking for up to 10,000 occasional users of the MVV means of transport who want to test an e-ticket system for two years.

Registration takes place via www.swipe-ride.de

MVV boss Bernd Rosenbusch is convinced that the future lies in the e-tariff, a quantum leap, so to speak.

"We are taking a completely new path here, away from the zone system." Ebersberg District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß, who represents the MVV districts, is also promoting the attempt: "Our MVV is innovative," he announced in a video message.

The beeline counts

Instead of zones, the price of an e-tariff is calculated purely as the crow flies between two stops.

When getting in, you log in with a swipe on your smartphone, when you get out you log out.

The system works with GPS, so the MVV did not have to install registration points at any of its 4,000 or so stops.

What sales manager Theresa Schwegler said at the presentation is not unimportant in the digitally developing state of Bavaria: "It also works with poor cell phone coverage, radio gaps can be bridged." You only have to have reception when checking in and out.

The e-tariff is particularly interesting for occasional drivers, but not for subscription customers.

The big advantage of the E tariff is not the price, but the simplicity, explains the MVV.

When comparing it with the Streifenkarte - which is the most popular ticket for infrequent drivers - there is no rule of thumb.

Sometimes it's a little more expensive, sometimes cheaper.

The beeline counts

The E tariff is calculated as follows:

A basic price of 1.10 euros per journey and a distance price of 30 cents per kilometer applies to stations with high occupancy rates.

A four-kilometer journey on the main S-Bahn route from the Ostbahnhof to the main train station costs 2.30 euros.

For the 32-kilometer route from Freising to Marienplatz you pay 10.70 euros.

At less frequented stops, a basic price of one euro plus 20 cents per kilometer as the crow flies applies.

Several provisions still need to be observed: First, there is a so-called daily cover, i.e. an upper limit.

If no journey per day exceeds 20 kilometers as the crow flies, the passenger counts a maximum of 7.90 euros - regardless of how often he drives.

Second, for journeys over 20 kilometers as the crow flies, the limit is a maximum of 11.90 euros.

Third, there are also credits if you use the e-tariff more often: ten percent of the monthly invoice amount after four (or more) trips.

Fourth, there is a time limit.

A journey may take a maximum of one hour, but you can get on and off in between.

But now, first of all, participants in the large-scale test must be won over.

You must be of legal age and have a credit card for billing reasons (EC card is not sufficient).
