Trump and Biden's microphones will be silenced in the latest debate

2020-10-20T01:03:50.501Z

The changes announced Monday night will allow each candidate to speak for two minutes without interruption while answering questions from the moderator. This means that whoever is not speaking will have the microphone muted during some parts of the meeting.

The president, Donald Trump, and the Democratic candidate for the presidency, Joe Biden,

will have their microphone silenced during the last presidential debate this Thursday while it is his opponent's turn to answer questions from the moderators

, as announced this Monday the Presidential Debate Commission.

Both microphones

will be on during the open discussion segments of the debate.

The only debate in which Trump and Biden have participated, last month, was marred by the frequent interruptions of the Republican candidate, which led to the request that for the next meeting the moderator of the debate had the ability to silence the microphone of each candidate while his opponent spoke.

The 90-minute debate is divided into six 15-minute segments, with each candidate having two minutes for uninterrupted comment before proceeding to an open debate.

The first presidential debate, at the end of September, was chaotic after constant interruptions, mostly from President Trump.

Although the open discussion segment of the debate will not feature a mute button, interruptions by either candidate will be deducted from their remaining time.

The commission had previously refused to make changes to the match's rules.
