The president of the Muslim NGO BarakaCity, Driss Yemmou, known as Idriss Sihamedi, was taken into police custody on Wednesday (October 21), suspected of online harassment against a former Charlie Hebdo journalist, AFP learned from corroborating sources, a week after being arrested for similar facts.

The president of the charity, targeted by a dissolution procedure, appeared Wednesday morning at the Paris judicial police to be heard as part of an investigation by the Paris prosecutor's office after the complaint of Zineb El Rhazoui, ex- collaborator of the satirical newspaper.

120 defamatory tweets

Last week, Idriss Sihamedi was taken into police custody in Essonne as part of another online harassment investigation, this time after the September 18 complaint from RMC radio columnist Zohra Bitan.

She reported "

120 defamatory tweets

" posted on her Twitter account by Sihamedi.

The latter had taken to task the two women, to whom he blames their criticisms of Islam in the media.

In this first case, he was released under judicial supervision on October 15 and was summoned to the Criminal Court of Evry on December 4.

This new custody of Sihamedi comes on the same day the government initiated dissolution proceedings against his NGO.

"

The context of this procedure, its precise timing and the 5-day deadline to respond to the observations on the dissolution of BarakaCity is not trivial

", responded to AFP the lawyer of Idriss Sihamedi, Me Samym Bolaky.

"

The climate is obviously political and we denounce it

".

The Ministry of the Interior, in its notification of administrative dissolution request sent Tuesday evening to Idriss Sihamedi, refers to "

messages published online from the accounts of the association or (those of its president)

" which "

provoke a great many comments hostile to the West, to secularism, to Freemasons or even to Muslims who do not share the conception of Islam promoted by the association

”.

There are also reports of anti-Semitic comments after these messages.

Me William Bourdon and Vincent Brengarth, who defend the NGO, denounced on Twitter "

the indigence of the reasons constructed from scratch by the administration to discredit the association, through its president, as well as the speed of this decision

" , which, according to them “

confirm the totally political and opportunist nature of this measure

”.

In a tweet, the association, founded in 2010 by Muslims of Salafist inspiration led by Idriss Sihamedi, announced that its lawyers would seize the defender of rights and the National Consultative Commission of Human Rights "in

order to contest this arbitrary measure

”.
