In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday, October 21, that "
separate meetings
" had taken place between Sergey Lavrov and his Armenian and Azerbaijani counterparts to discuss the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh.

During the negotiations, the discussions focused on urgent issues related to the implementation of the ceasefire agreements decided previously and the creation of the conditions necessary for a lasting settlement of the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh
", explained the Ministry.
A joint meeting took place on October 9 and resulted in a humanitarian truce agreement to enter into force the next day, but this remained a dead letter.
A second ceasefire failed a week later.
Russia, the main regional power, has increased calls for a ceasefire since the resumption of hostilities on September 27 in Nagorno Karabakh, a region mainly populated by Armenians who seceded from Azerbaijan at the end of the war. USSR and object of a war which killed 30,000 people.
