No mercy for Nasrin Sotudeh: The Iranian human rights attorney, who was awarded the Alternative Nobel Prize, now has to serve her remaining sentence in a women's prison.

This was announced by a spokesman for Tehran's prison administration.

The reason: Sotudeh is no longer classified as a political but as a normal prisoner.

That is why she was transferred from Ewin Prison in Tehran to Gharchak Women's Prison south of the capital.

There she had to serve the rest of her twelve-year prison sentence, the spokesman said, according to the news agency Mehr, without further explanation.

Sotudeh's husband Resa Chandan harshly condemned the prison administration on Tuesday.

According to him, she had initially informed the human rights activist that she would be taken to hospital.

But then it turned out that she was being transferred to Gharchak Prison.

However, the hygienic conditions there are even worse than in Ewin Prison, Chandan said on Twitter and Facebook.

This step is an irresponsible risk to her health, as she has to be immediately taken to hospital in view of her worrying condition, criticized Chandan.

Sotudeh ended her hunger strike last month after nearly 50 days.

Previously, she had to be treated for five days in a hospital in Tehran for a heart failure.

With the hunger strike, the 57-year-old lawyer and women's rights activist wanted to protest against the prison conditions of political prisoners during the corona pandemic.

Sotudeh is accused of "subversive propaganda".

There is different information about her prison sentence.

According to her husband, she was sentenced by a revolutionary court in 2018 to 33 years and six months in prison and 148 lashes.

She must serve at least 12 years from imprisonment.

But later there was also talk of 38 years.

Sotudeh had denied all charges against her in court.

You only engage peacefully for women's rights and against the death penalty in the country.

She and her husband are among the most renowned human rights activists in Iran.
