Racist, criminal, clown: the personal attacks between Biden and Trump

2020-10-21T01:00:56.746Z

We took on the task of verifying some personal offenses of the candidates, recorded in speeches, interviews and debates a few weeks before the presidential election in the United States.

By Daniela Nougues - Telemundo News

The presidential campaign in the United States has been replete with personal attacks between President Donald Trump and his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.

The first electoral debate, held on September 29, became a show of interruptions and offenses.

Trump, with a more aggressive tone, and Biden, who despite being more passive, was quick to react.

That day the democrat called his rival a "liar", a "clown" and even said: do you want to shut up?

The issues many Americans wanted to hear were put aside by the clash of the presidential candidates.

Between Trump's various interruptions during the debate, Biden went from having a smile to showing his anger and saying to his rival, "You want to shut up, man?"

"Everybody knows he's a liar," Biden said of Trump, just as they were discussing health care for Americans.

“The fact is, everything he's saying so far is just a lie.

I am not here to point out their lies, "said the Democratic candidate.

This claim by Biden could be considered true, considering the number of false or misleading claims that Trump has made since taking office.

The fact-checking section of The Washington Post has closely followed Trump's statements in recent years.

In July 2020, the lies and deceptions that have been detected by the president already exceeded 20,000.

Trump accuses Biden's son and he calls him a "clown"

During the presidential debate, Trump again accused the son of the Democratic candidate for the White House of corruption.

"Why did the wife of the mayor of Moscow give his son (Hunter) 3.5 million dollars? What did he do to deserve that?" Trump questioned.

Just then, Biden lost his cool and called his opponent a "clown," though he immediately apologized.

“Well, this clown is hard to talk to.

Excuse me, this person, ”Biden said, reiterating that the accusations about his son were false.

Trump also brought up the addiction problems of the White House hopeful's son.

"Hunter was expelled from the army. He was expelled, dishonorably expelled for cocaine use," the president said.

It is worth saying that Trump's claim that Hunter Biden received money from the Moscow mayor's wife has no basis, as verified by the Politifact organization.

Socialist biden

President Donald Trump has repeatedly accused Biden of being a socialist.

Last August he described the Democratic candidate as "the Trojan horse of socialism."

"Socialism is the mainstream of the Biden campaign and it is not the mainstream of America. Remember I said we will never have a socialist country," Trump said at a rally in Arizona.

More recently, during the presidential debate, he insisted on the same.

"Your party wants to go to socialist medicine and socialist healthcare," Trump said, interrupting Biden when he spoke of his proposal to continue and expand Obamacare.

In his attacks on Biden, Trump also often says that Biden - a moderate Catholic Democrat - opposes God and is against religion.

Both ideas have already been verified and denied by the TVerifica team of Noticias Telemundo.

"He is the racist"

Racial violence and mobilizations against police excesses against black people have been repeated themes during the presidential campaign, with mutual accusations among the presidential candidates.

"He's the racist," was the phrase Biden launched during the first debate after Trump responded to the question about his decision to federal agencies to suspend racial sensitivity training.

“They were teaching people that our country is a horrible place.

It is a racist place.

And they were teaching people to hate our country.

And I'm not going to let that happen, ”Trump said.

Accusations of racism against Trump are frequent.

And although it is impossible to know what a person thinks, the truth is that his actions only reinforce that idea that a good part of the population has about him.

From calling Mexicans "rapists" who bring drugs and crime to the United States, to referring to nations like El Salvador and Haiti as "shitty countries."

This, without forgetting that the official newspaper of the white supremacist group Ku Klux Klan gave its support to Trump for the presidency of the United States in 2016.

False allegation of pedophilia

The attacks have not stopped during the race for the White House.

One of the most serious is the false accusation of pedophilia against the former vice president.

Messages with these unfounded accusations have been circulating on social networks for months.

And in this context, President Trump shared through his Twitter account on September 15, a tweet from Conservative Girl (@ ConservUSA38), in which a GIF with an image of Biden, from February 2015, was observed, where the Democratic candidate approaches Stephanie Carter, wife of the then Secretary of Defense, Ashton Carter, takes her by the shoulders and speaks into her ear.

The president's retweet was later deleted from his account.

In Biden's long political career and public life, there have been no formal accusations or complaints that implicate him in any type of crime involving minors.

Trump and Biden adjust their strategies for the last presidential debate before the elections

 Stoke hatred

The candidate for the presidency for the Democratic party, accused Trump of being "fanning the flames of hatred" in the United States and of being "using the politics of fear to incite his supporters", because, according to Biden, the " war in the streets is good for his chances of re-election ”.

The democrat's statements were offered after condemning the death of a person in downtown Portland during a violent confrontation, at the end of last August, between Trump supporters and protesters who denounced police excesses.

"You are recklessly encouraging violence. You may believe that tweeting about law and order makes you strong," but it shows how weak you are, "Biden said of Trump's social media posts, in which he refers the Democratic mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, whom the president called "crazy on the left" and "stupid", accusing him of doing nothing about the violent events.

"Biden is a criminal"

In the framework of the presidential campaign and during a tour of different states of the country, President Trump has reiterated his combative tone, affirming that Joe Biden is "a criminal."

"Joe Biden is a criminal, he has been a criminal for a long time and you are criminals (referring to journalists), and the media also for not reporting him," he told his supporters.

During a rally in Nevada, Trump insisted on the same accusation, but this time, he called the entire Biden family criminal.

“Lock him up,” shouted those attending the event as the president launched his accusations.

"Joe Biden is and always has been a corrupt politician. He always has been. And as far as I'm concerned, the Biden family is a criminal enterprise. It really is," said Trump, who often attributes criminal charges to his Democratic rival. for an alleged operation to help a Ukrainian company that was paying his son, Hunter.

Trump has never offered proof of his accusations.

The information has not been corroborated and there is no evidence that Biden has committed any crime.

The "worst" president

The candidate for the presidency for the Democratic party, for his part, assured that Trump is "the worst president the United States has ever had."

The discredit occurred in the middle of the first presidential debate, just at the time they were talking about the issue of paying taxes.

Trump assured that he had paid millions of dollars, but the moderator, journalist Chris Wallace insisted that he speak specifically about the years 2016 and 2017. According to a report published by the New York Times, the president only paid $ 750 in federal taxes in those two years.

At Biden's point, Trump responded that he had done more in 47 months than the former vice president in 47 years.

With just two weeks before the presidential elections, the table is set for what seems to be close days and times of more personal attacks.

Will the bickering continue to be what marks this close competition for the White House? We will find out in the coming days and in the second presidential debate to be held this Thursday in the city of Nashville, Tennessee.

This data verification was carried out by T Verifica thanks to the FactChat agreement, coordinated by the
