The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that two Russian fighters intercepted two US strategic bombers over the Bering Sea.
"The army's radars detected two air targets approaching the border ... and to identify the two targets and prevent them from violating the Russian borders, two MiG-31 and Sukhoi 35 fighters, belonging to the eastern military region, took off," RIA Novosti news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.
The ministry added in its statement, "The crews of the two Russian fighter jets identified the two air targets, and it became clear that they were two American B1M strategic bombers and escorted them over the Bering Sea water area far from the border."
Last September, the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had intercepted four foreign aircraft from the Baltic Fleet, which were approaching the Russian border over the Baltic Sea.
