The death toll from the floods and landslides that swept north and central Vietnam over the past days has risen to 114, in addition to 21 others missing.
Xinhua quoted the Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Committee as saying that the deaths occurred mainly in Quang Tri, Tua Thien Hue and Quang Nam provinces, indicating that about 60,000 families have been evacuated from these areas, while 46,800 houses in Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Mashirah are still submerged in water. That the search and rescue operations and the transfer of people are still underway.
The National Center for Hydrological Forecast and Meteorology said the high risk of landslides and floods may continue to threaten many areas.
The Vietnamese authorities announced the day before yesterday that 105 people were killed and 27 others were missing due to floods and landslides.
