Investigators from the Bordeaux research section had been following since November 2019 a 30-year-old man suspected of making “

almost weekly

trips

between Spain and France with loads of herbal cannabis, by ten kilos, a explained the gendarmerie.

The starting point for this traffic was the city of Bilbao (Biscay), in northern Spain.

Thanks to close cooperation forged with the Spanish Guardia Civile, the investigators set up interrupted surveillance during the period of confinement and the closing of the borders between France and Spain.

Sunday was the suspect's first trip since the end of confinement.

The gendarmes, supported by the GIGN branch in Toulouse, arrested in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, near Bordeaux, four people: the three delivery men from Spain and this main customer, suspected of being a semi-wholesaler reselling drugs in Gironde.

Four other people, customers, were arrested in Gironde.

This operation, which mobilized 70 soldiers, made it possible to seize nearly 40 kg of grass transported by Spanish drivers as well as 800 grams of cocaine, 210,000 euros in cash and a dozen vehicles including a sedan estimated at more than 100,000 euros.

Accounts were also seized.

At the end of their custody, five of the eight suspects will be presented to an investigating judge in Bordeaux for their indictment.
