After a long wait, the Westenhofen level crossing will be upgraded next year.

Then the eternal waiting in front of closed barriers will come to an end.

  • The level crossing in Schliersee-Westenhofen will get a new barrier and traffic light system next year.

  • At the same time, the intersection is being rebuilt so that traffic can flow better.

  • To do this, the federal highway must be closed for at least a week - in the middle of the summer vacation.

Schliersee

- About another year, then the endless waiting times at the level crossing in Westenhofen will be a thing of the past.

Because DB Netz AG is building a new signal box in Schliersee next year, the level crossings also have to be upgraded.

If they are currently still operated manually by the dispatcher, in future this will be done electrically, and at Kirchbichl even automatically via a train-operated trigger.

The plans have now been presented to the Schliersee municipal council.

In Westenhofen in particular, this goes hand in hand with a reconstruction of the intersection - and with traffic obstructions.

Right-turners get a longer lane, pedestrian lights are relocated

Konrad Haindl did not spark any real enthusiasm.

His planning office Infra has taken over the road planning.

As reported, the traffic coming from Hausham gets a right-turn lane.

When the barriers are closed, straight-ahead traffic should be able to flow, which was often not possible until now.

Other changes: The pedestrian traffic lights will be moved towards the center of the village, at the level of the butcher's shop.

Before that there is a short left turn lane.

If you come from the center of the village and want to cross the railroad crossing to the left, you can stop much further ahead in the future.

In addition, the entrance to the cemetery parking lot will be moved a bit away from the level crossing.

The footpath on Breitensteinstrasse will swivel to the right in front of the tracks and have its own small level crossing. Despite the cramped conditions, Haindl said, a pavement width of two meters or more is possible almost everywhere.

Combined footpaths and cycle paths are only allowed from three meters wide.

Small shock: the federal highway is completely closed for a week or two

The local councils had to swallow the construction schedule.

One or even two weeks of full closure during the summer holidays - i.e. during the main tourist season - cannot be avoided, says Haindl.

"Because of the school bus traffic, I only get a full closure during the holidays," he said when asked by Babette Wehrmann (Greens).

As Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer (CSU) explained, a period of six weeks was mentioned in the first plan.

"We said he could pack it up again straight away." For another two weeks, only one lane would be passable and traffic lights would regulate the traffic, according to the traffic planner, who, however, fears that "huge traffic jams" will arise during the half-way closure of the busy main road .

But that is always better for the Schlierseern than the huge detour over the Leitzach valley.

Still unclear: How will Breitenbachstrasse be treated in the event of a traffic jam

Jürgen Höltschl (CSU) wanted a way for pedestrians to cross Breitenbachstrasse in front of the level crossing in a northward direction, to Mühlweg.

Haindl announced that it would examine this as well as the question from Vice Mayor Peter Sprenger (Die Schlierseer).

He had reported that an induction loop in Breitenbachstrasse ensured that when there was a traffic jam there, the traffic light on the main road would turn red and the traffic could flow away.

A regulation for this is particularly necessary for the time of the half-block.

However, Haindl also said: “This is not a traffic light system in the sense that it can control the traffic.” However, it is synchronized with the pedestrian system in such a way that the latter does not stop traffic when the level crossing is about to be cleared.

Gerhard Waas (Greens) worried about secret routes.

Alternative traffic through residential areas, sometimes without sidewalks, must absolutely be prevented.

Lots of concerns.

A little too many for Florian Reinthaler (CSU).

“I'm happy when there are no more 13-minute values.

That way we gain more than if we had thoughts of murder over a week. ”The barriers in Westenhofen are closed for up to 13 minutes.

For security reasons, they have to be up when a train leaves Hausham station and remain closed until the train coming from Bayrischzell has passed.

With the new signal box, this regulation is a thing of the past.

According to Schnitzenbaumer, there are closing times of two to four minutes in the room.

Works start in May

According to Schnitzenbaumer, construction work on the level crossing should begin around mid-May.

The work is now being put out to tender, and the schedule may be adjusted after it has been awarded.

But the project itself is in place.

The same applies to the level crossing in Fischhausen-Neuhaus.
