Stoiber himself lived in Waldram for seven years
On the occasion of the ceremony "75 years of DP Camp Föhrenwald", the chairwoman of the Badehausverein mentioned that Stoiber had lived in Waldram for a long time and was therefore also a contemporary witness.
In fact, the long-time CSU chairman moved with his parents from Oberaudorf to Waldram in 1961 - four years after the last resident of the Jewish DP camp had left Waldram.
Stoiber stayed there until 1968 at the postal address Unter den Föhren 22. "I got to know and appreciate Waldram very well."
For Stoiber, the bathhouse is a "model of the culture of remembrance that radiates far beyond the borders of Wolfratshausen".
It is not a local issue.
The bathhouse project stands for “a part of the unfortunate German history that we must never forget or suppress”.
He was particularly moved on Sunday by the interviews with contemporary witnesses from back then and the “intense questions from the young colleagues to the former displaced persons”.
