Washington-SANA

US authorities have arrested a man from Maryland, near Washington, DC, who threatened to kidnap and kill supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

And CNN reported that James Del Reid approached one of the houses that put up signs in support of Biden's campaign and Vice President Kamala Harris in Maryland and left in front of the house a handwritten letter containing threats to kidnap and kill Biden supporters.

"This is a warning to anyone reading this message. If you are a supporter of Biden and Harris, you will be targeted ... We have a list of homes and addresses through election banners ... We are the ones who carry those frightening weapons and we are the ones who cause nightmares for your children," read the text of the message left by Reid.

This threat is not the only one faced by supporters of the Democratic Party, as a number of voters supporting Biden in various US states reported that they had received threatening e-mails asking them to vote for US President Donald Trump, otherwise the consequences would be dire.

Reid's arrest comes after the disclosure of a plot to kidnap Democratic Virginia Governor Ralph Northam last June by an armed militia.

Earlier this month, US authorities arrested 13 members of a network charged with conspiring to kidnap Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

With the approaching US presidential elections, fears are increasing about the escalating threats from militias known for their extremist tendency and their association with white supremacist groups that have increased their activity under Trump's presidency and his rhetoric charged with racism and discrimination on ethnic grounds.

Domestic security notes in the United States have warned in recent months that local extremists may pose a threat to targets related to the US presidential election, and FBI Director Christopher Ray said during congressional hearings last month that the office is conducting investigations into local extremists, including white racists. Noting that the bulk of the investigations focused on the fanatic groups of the white race.
