The corona virus continues to spread across continental Europe, prompting countries such as France, Italy, Britain, Spain and Greece to impose further restrictions on their residents as well as extend their sustainability.

Today (Thursday) alone, more than 200,000 people became infected with the virus and nearly 2,000 died from it.

In France, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the extension of the curfew at night to dozens of other areas.

This, in order to slow down the second outbreak of the virus, which claimed the lives of 162 people in the last day and infected about 41,000.

"The second wave is happening right now," Castex said, explaining that the situation in the country is "very serious."

The curfew, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., will take effect tomorrow at midnight, and will affect the lives of 46 million people.

"The coming weeks will be difficult and the death toll will continue to rise," the French prime minister added at a news conference earlier today.

"If we do not succeed in stopping the plague, we will face a terrible situation and be forced to think of much more difficult measures."

"We still have time to avoid it, but not much time," he said.

Castex's announcement comes less than a week after the same curfew was imposed on the Paris area and eight other cities, including Marseille, Lyon, Lille and Toulouse.

The restrictions will be extended to 38 additional administrative departments as well as to the territorial territory of Polynesia overseas, and will last for six weeks.

The night curfew drew criticism and complaints from restaurant owners, whose businesses were hit after a two-month spring closure.

However, according to French President Emmanuel Macron, the curfew is necessary to prevent congestion in hospitals.

Ireland has entered into force "Level 5" restrictions, the highest level of Corona regulations in the country, after being the first in Europe two days ago to enter a second closure.

The five million residents were instructed to stay at home for six weeks.

In the Czech Republic, a second closure took effect in light of the increase in morbidity, which rose by 7,510 people in the last day.

Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babis said new restrictions were needed to prevent the flooding of hospitals.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsutakis has also announced a curfew in Athens and other parts of the country, which will take effect on Saturday between 00:30 and 05:00.

In Germany, the daily number of patients peaked at 11,287.
