Colombian Vice President Marta Lucia Ramirez announced on Friday that she had tested positive for Covid-19, but said she was in good health.

Marta Lucia Ramirez, 66, was elected in 2018 in tandem with right-wing President Ivan Duque, becoming the first woman to hold the vice-presidency in Colombia.

"Yesterday, I carried out the test for # COVID19 (...) I inform the Colombians that the result was positive",

she tweeted, adding that she was

"in good health" and respected " the required isolation ”.

The vice-president was Thursday alongside the head of state during a public event organized at the presidential palace.

Both wore masks.

The government made no reference to Ms Ramirez's announcement.

Colombia, a country of 50 million inhabitants released from five months of confinement since September 1, but maintaining certain limitations, is approaching one million cases with 990,270 people infected, including 29,636 dead according to the latest report.
