The new crown pneumonia struck Hong Kong in January this year. The "Hospital Authority Staff Front" launched an industrial action from February 3 to 7, including a two-stage strike, involving more than 7,000 medical staff.
The Hospital Authority did not recognize the action as a strike, and believed that it was an employee’s absenteeism. It sent a letter this month asking the employee to explain the reason for the absenteeism. It must respond by today (23rd).
The staff front of the Hospital Authority went to the Hospital Authority Building this afternoon to submit a reply letter from the union and its members, stating that 5,800 members responded to the Hospital Authority according to the union model and authorized the union to handle all strike-related matters.
Yu Huiming, chairman of the Staff Front of the Hospital Authority, said that after consulting legal opinions, the union provided members with a template for consistent replies. As of 2 pm today, the union received 5,800 replies from members and authorized the union to handle all strike-related matters.
She emphasized that the strike launched in February was approved by the special general meeting and was justified, and it was by no means a dwarfed absence by the HA.
She continued that the trade union will definitely unite with its members and demand that the HA stop suppressing the trade union and liquidate its members, and immediately start collective bargaining and equal dialogue with the trade union.
She pointed out that if the HA starts the next liquidation, the union will not rule out launching a collective action to resist.
